Frequently Asked Questions about Graphic Recording and Colleen Stevenson Graphics

Who do I work with?

I am willing to working with anyone who is open to graphics. My clients have tended to focus on conversation and dialogue over presentations and lectures although I know that graphic recording is useful in all scenarios.

What size of group do I work with?

I work with groups that range in size from a single person to three hundred or more people.

Why do I do this work?

I love my work! I love the synthesis of beauty and information, the buzz of a roomful of excited conversations, the thrill of new ideas. As an educator I am keenly aware that learning requires a fully engaged and enthusiastic mind and I see graphic charts as a means of awakening people to learning as well as stirring emotion. My training in the Montessori method emphasized both whole brain learning and nurturing the whole person rather than just their intellect. Graphic chart work was thus a natural progression from Montessori for me.

I also have a deep appreciation for visual cues and aesthetics. While studying permaculture I relied heavily on that tradition of simplifying complex ideas with sketches and graphics. This gave me a deep appreciate for the power of pictures to aid in the synthesis of information.

So I love the actual creative work, I love encouraging learning, I love learning new ideas myself, I love acting as a witness while recording and I love meeting new adventurous people.

What do my clients receive?

They receive the original charts and copies of the images in jpeg format. These images are distributed to the participants as quickly as possible to trigger the memory of the experience and reinforce what was learned.

For custom chart work, clients receive a quick draft sketch electronically to be confirmed before any final chart is prepared.

What are my rates?

I use a daily rate for recording, facilitating and event design with direct expenses (materials, travel, accommodation, meals, etc.)  in addition to that. That rate includes up to three hours of pre- and post-event work, including consultations to clarify goals or to do background research as well as editing and distributing images. Custom chart work is charged out at an hourly studio rate. This rate is applied to any required research.
